Beautiful Sod for Michigan Golf Courses

Golf Course Sod

For the approximately 26 million golfers in the United States, Michigan is a summer golf destination.

Michigan has hosted the PGA Championships 5 times!

Michigan’s extended daylight hours in spring, summer, and fall coupled with ideal summer temperatures averaging in the 70 degree range, create the perfect environment for golfers to enjoy Michigan’s miles of lakeshore and unique topography while chasing that little white ball.
With 865 public and private golf courses in Michigan, there are opportunities for professionals (Michigan has hosted the PGA Championships 5 times) on down to beginners to enjoy the perfect combination of sport and nature that is golf.
In order to stay competitive, golf courses need to renovate and update their tees, bunkers, greens, and fairways. Golf courses in Michigan add 4.2 billion dollars to the economy, with almost half of that stemming from an indirect method such as renovation projects.
Golf courses require a variety of different turfs to fit their many needs. To keep club members and course players satisfied, these renovation projects need to happen quickly and smoothly with as little disturbance to play as possible. Sod is the only solution that offers instant results.
At DeBuck’s Sod Farm, we have expanded our sod variety selection so more of these specialty turfgrasses can be readily available to service our golf course clients. Our unmatched turf selection paired with our dedication to unparalleled service will keep everyone satisfied, especially superintendents.

We Grow The Best Sod in Michigan For Your Golf Course!

Our Kentucky Bluegrass sod has been used by golf courses for many years, but our recent addition of Fine Fescue sod and Tall Fescue sod has generated a lot of interest from golf courses in Michigan. Fine Fescue sod blends well with other turf varieties, making it desirable for renovation projects. It gives the redesign a soft, blended edge instead of a stark contrast between the new area and the original course. Fine Fescue sod is also great for areas near deciduous trees or pine trees as it is the most shade tolerant cool season grass and also can withstand acidic soil conditions.

Low Maintenance Turfs

Both Fine Fescue and Tall Fescue are low maintenance turfs requiring reduced fertilizer inputs and exhibiting high drought tolerance. Tall Fescue sod gives great contrast to courses renovating their outlying areas. It’s stiff, dark leaf blade keeps its green color, even in a Michigan heat wave, due to the deep root system and waxy coating. Superintendents are choosing Tall Fescue sod because it has the lowest disease potential of any other cool season grass and it is easy to maintain.

"My Holiday Lawn Bluegrass"

Another option for courses looking to reduce their maintenance and labor costs is “My Holiday Lawn Bluegrass”. It is a compact growing, dark green variety of Kentucky Bluegrass that reduces mowing by at least half. Due to its dark green coloring, other inputs like water and fertilizer can also be reduced when compared with standard varieties of Kentucky Bluegrass.

Our Lightweight Peat

The soil base at DeBuck’s Sod Farm is a dark, lightweight peat that turf roots permeate to form a dense matt. That means our sod is primarily tissue matter with very little soil, and the peat that is mixed in with the roots is lightweight enough to eliminate layering issues on most golf course areas. At DeBuck’s Sod Farm we have a solution for any golf course renovation.
